Winter is Finally Here.

Do you know what one snowman said to the other? - “Do you smell carrots?”

Yesterday at Noon it was 72 degrees and partly sunny. By 4:00 PM it was below 50 and cloudy. Today there is no school and there probably won’t be any tomorrow, It’s 8:45 AM and it’s 30 degrees and sleeting. It’s supposed to get down around 22 today with an 80 to 100 % chance of the sleet and freezing rain turning into snow with an accumulation of anywhere from 2 to 9 inches by Friday. It’s not supposed to get above freezing again until Monday. It’s a tad nipply. Oklahoma weather sucks, it’s never really too cold or too hot but you can use the heater and the air conditioner all in the same day. The News Guy said there will probably be some power outages due to freezing and breaking limbs bringing down power lines. No worries, I have gas heat, a corded phone, two way radios (and so does my sister) enough food and water for a week or so, I wish I had a little more stock-piled but it’s been a hard year. I have propane lanterns and plenty of oil lamps, I wish I had more oil but I have enough for whatever Oklahoma can throw my way. I’m probably planning ahead for nothing because the News Guys hardly ever gets it right anyway. We’ll most likely get a inch and a half of snow and it will melt off by Saturday. Emily has already gone back to bed, she got up at 5:00 AM, showered and watched the news until they finally called school off at 6:10 AM, just the time she usually walks out the door to catch the bus, 5 more minutes and she’d been out the door. Anyway I think a nap sounds pretty good right about now, I've been up all night... again. Peace to all and good day.

(sorry for the lame snowman joke)

The weather sucks here too! The water in the bird bath is frozen the temp is 47 degrees now (9:07am), but its clear and the sun is out. The folks up north are under a layer of snow! I'm not runnig any heat in the house (after $300 a month bills in the summer), I don't mind it being cold in the house -- I'm only cold until the next hot flash. Something is happening to my keyboard? It's missing letters now and then, for every keystoke I'm hitting "backspace" to fill in the missing letter. ere's an xample of what the keyboard is doing, stage huh? I onder if is thecold?

Oh yeah, I read your "man gravey" comment on Bab's blog! I've called it a lot of names, but never "man gravey!"

Chuck, As you can see I AM AT WORK, which means the powers that be did not deem the weather quite serious enough to call off school here in Tahlequah. Oh well, nothing like getting paid to surf and blog all day. I did take a couple of kids to wal mart for winter clothes, then raided the DHS clothing closet for socks, undies, etc. We had McDonalds and went back to school...what a job. Makes me remember why I got into social work, smiles. I like smiles. Smiles are good, especially on kids. Of course I got my share of meth freak mom and dads smiling at me with their one tooth when I had to give their kids back cause the parents produced ONE clean urine sample in 24 months. Yeah, that's the social work I DO NOT miss. Child Welfare is such a misnomer, should be called PARENT WELFARE. That's all I ever dealt with. Anyway, good for you and Em, enjoy the day off. Hope we get enough sleet and snow that we aren't here tomorrow. It takes at least a foot for Tahlequah to shut down. Good Grief. Think I'll take a nap of my own before the Ravens/Bengals game tonight. Cold Diet Pepsi, hot microwave popcorn, good football game on a warm couch with the cold wind howling outside, yeah baby. Later bro.

azcg - i much prefer the cold over hot, but my house has no insulation so if it's 26 degrees outside it's 26 degrees inside, and i think the law states that i have to at least try and make an effort to keep the kid alive, that includes feed, water, and reasonable means of shelter.

yeah, man gravy sounds nasty don't it? put some of that on your biscuit!

chef wb - parent welfare, makes too much sense, they'd never go for it. i'm glad you got a chance to do the good work today, be careful and stay home tomorrow. peace bro.

shane - there just might be something to that global warming, maybe they're not pulling our legs, the seasons sure seem to be changing from what i remember as a kid. take care my brother from down under (i know that's an australian thing but you nz'rs are down there too)

xmichra - it really doesn't bother me at all, i never let weather get to me, i like the snow, some doofus just tried to turn around in my driveway and got stuck in my neighbor's ditch, just tore the crap out of her yard, Emily gave them a tow rope but it was useless, they had to get a tow truck, people act like they never saw ice before. i hope you're keeping warm, i went out twice today in my shorts, but only for a moment. take care.

Stay snuggled in your bungalow Chuck and feel cozy. I love a good storm if I'm safe, my kids and family are all accounted for and we've got the essentials.
BTW, I love My Immortal but did they suck in concert or what? Maybe it was the video throwing it's time off but they were off key. She still has one of the best voices though, eh?

Growing up in southern cal, I never had snow days...now, as a mom, I look forward to them so I can keep my kids home and bake and watch tv all day and make crafts and sleep. What a treat even for mom!

hey babs - it's about 17 degrees now, the snow will probably last another 4 hours or so, should peter out about 2 or 3 am. we've gotten about 3 to 4 inches so far, a little farther up north has already recieved 15 inches with 10 to 12 foot drifts, that's a lot for Ok.

yeah a little off key, it was at the billboard music awards in '04, i had a better version but it wouldn't play right. xoxo

hey SOTJ - how's it going, i lived a while in So Cal as a kid, i think we had school delayed one time for fog but that was about it. my daughter turns 16 next month and i still enjoy it when she gets to stay home on a snow day, we played with the dogs and we (she) cooked a good meal, that was after our nap of course. take care of yourself.

Dude !! That sure sounds crappy weather youre having !! If you substituted the snow for rain and made the Temp 4 degrees Celcius then you would se we are having the same shitty season ! :-).
Sometimes I reckon the snow may be better than the sleety frozen rain we get here.... Oh how i long for the warmth of the southern hemisphere sun on my face... ! Bollox !! I hate winter....
