I'm A Huge Doof !

I am a Huge Doof, I haven't been around in a while, I've had no motivation to write anything. I finally splurged a while back and got Dish Satellite for my TV and I spend most of my time in front of the tube. Then today on a whim I bought a Guitar Hero III game for Emily's Play Station II. I'm friggin' hooked! She'll probably get no play time as long as I'm awake. It's "Legends of Rock" my kind of music, Foghat, Van Halen, Ozzy, Scorpions, and so on. I don't care if I do look like a Big Putts playing it because it's a blast. I played it so much my arms and fingers are sore. I guess 3:00 AM was a good time to get off of it. I'm usually the last person to catch on to something new but that's OK, better late than never. Peace.

I am so glad that you are okay!! I was really worried! you are a doof. =P

Guitar hero ROCKS. it is the only game that i play on our Wii (i hate that system) and i play for HOURS on end!!! We have the legends of rock version too. I love a few of the "B" side songs (radio song is one of my fav's) but i think the one i was addicted to playing the most was Kinghts of Sedonia. Oh my gods.. i spent HOURS perfecting that on Medium.. lol... i suck :)

Hey Darlin! Glad you're still kickin, ya had me real worried, don't ya know?

My kid has this Guitar hero thingy. I've not played it but I have done that Rock Band where you have to sing. Just to do it I had to have a couple drinks per usual but it's like nothing like studio shit. I can't explain it but it's not easy to do, let's put it that way. I had to sing some Orange Crush REM song. Hated it!

People back East say, "Why don't he write?" Sure glad to hear from you Mr. Peacock.

Thoughts on Death...
Every moment of our lives we stand on the brink of eternity.

TWELVE ADVANTAGES TO BE DERIVED FROM THE CONTEMPLATION OF DEATH.

1. Contemplation of death enables us to judge properly and prevents our being imposed upon in all affairs. With nothing we came into this world, and with nothing shall we leave it. Why then should we consume our very lives in the accumulation of riches? No one is to accompany us out of this world; why then are we so fond of creatures?

The stench and corruption of the grave in which the pampered body is the prey of the lowest vermin show us the folly of carnal pleasures.

In our narrow cell beneath the earth among the meanest things of creation, when our very blanket of soil may be trampled upon by the meanest beggar, then we shall be freed of the vanity of seeking distinction and preference over others.

2. It is our best instructor through life, laying down but one simple rule, which is the direction of all our acts to one last end. This consideration drives away all the petty troubles which punctuate this life with unfailing regularity: it steadies us on the course and sustains us on the journey.

3. It teaches us to know ourselves, one of the essential points of true wisdom.

4. It teaches us to despise all that this world can offer, and is the solace of all true servants of God.

5. It is like ice, and helps to chill and deaden the fire of concupiscence; it is a bridle which curbs our sensual appetites.

6. It is a continual source of humiliation, a specific remedy against pride and vanity.

7. It is an excellent preservative against sin. "In all thy works be mindful of thy last end, and thou shalt never sin."
[Eccl. 7: 40]

8. It brings exasperated minds back to peace and reconciliation. Whoever considers seriously that a certain and unavoidable death will one day bring him before the Judge Who shows no mercy but to those who show mercy to others, he will easily be induced to forgive.

9. It is an antidote against the pleasures and vanities of the world. Thus the prince who once placed a jester in a crazy chair over a large fire told him very justly, seeing the jester's uneasiness, that life should be considered like a defective chair, which at any hour, at any moment, might fall to pieces; and the fire beneath the prince represented as the fires of Hell which everyone should hold in dread.

10. It teaches us a provident economy with regard to our salvation, by setting before our eyes the transitory character of this life, and the necessity of laying up a treasure of good works while it is in our power to do so.

11. It induces us to embrace penances with a cheerful spirit.

12. It encourages us to persevere in the way of penance with unshakable firmness.

But I Cannot Find that in the Bible!
One of the many false charges made against the Catholic Church:

False charge #1. "The Catholic Church and / or the Pope is the 'Whore of Babylon.'

Many non-Catholic books have been written 'proving' that this is what the Bible 'clearly' says!"

Answer to false charge #1. Proving??? Clearly??? I have now donned my Sola Scriptura glasses for a reply using Sola Scriptura believers non-Catholic rules, and first of all, I cannot find the phrase 'whore of Babylon' in the Bible.

Not only that but I cannot find a single reference that says 'Catholic Church' or the word 'Pope' to connect to the non-existent 'whore of Babylon'.

This is irrefutable proof that non-Catholics have a double standard (doublethink*).

When Catholic's make a statement, they are greeted with Sola Scriptura, and nothing else.

End of conversation. However, when non-Catholics make a charge against the Catholic Church like this one, there is no such thing as Sola Scriptura.

They pull these charges out of thin air with not a single thread of proof.

Hypocrisy???

Answers anyone???

7 Make no mistake: God is not mocked, for a person will reap only what he sows,
8 because the one who sows for his flesh will reap corruption from the flesh, but the one who sows for the spirit will reap eternal life from the spirit. (Galatians 6: 7-8)

*Doublethink...! You cannot have it both ways, but some non-Catholic Sola Scriptura believers sure do try.

What is required in order to have Jesus ABIDE in us and we in Him?

Can we do it:
1. By accepting Him as our our own personal Lord and Savior ?
No. Where does the Bible say that?

2. By the grace of GOD only? Sola Gracias?
No. Where does the Bible say that?

3. By faith in GOD alone? Sola Fides?
No. Where does the Bible say that?

It is simple common sense that since He commanded that we must do something, then doesn't it stand to reason that He would also tell us how to do it?

Jesus was very clear in what we must do in order to have Him ABIDE in us and we in Him.

Jesus left this command for us in John 6:53-57:

53 "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you (the taken away branch);

54 he who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. 55 For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.

56 HE WHO EATS MY FLESH AND DRINKS MY BLOOD ABIDES IN ME, AND I IN HIM.

57 As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so he who eats me will live because of me."

Whoever believes in me, as scripture says: 'Rivers of living water will flow from within him. (John 7: 38)

22 But I say to you, whoever is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment, and whoever says to his brother, 'Raqa,' will be answerable to the Sanhedrin, and whoever says, 'You fool,' will be liable to fiery Gehenna. (Matthew 5: 22)

29 If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one of your members than to have your whole body thrown into Gehenna.

30 And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one of your members than to have your whole body go into Gehenna. (Matthew 5: 29- 30)

13 “Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the road broad that leads to destruction and those who enter through it are many.

14 How narrow the gate and constricted the road that leads to life. And those who find it are few.

15 "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but underneath are ravenous wolves.

16 By their fruits you will know them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?

17 Just so, every good tree bears good fruit, and a rotten tree bears bad fruit.

18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a rotten tree bear good fruit.

19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.

20 So by their fruits you will know them. (Matthew 7: 13 – 20)

Symbols of the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is frequently referred to by metaphor and symbol, both doctrinally and biblically. Theologically speaking these symbols are a key to understanding of the Holy Spirit and his actions, and are not mere artistic representations.

Water - signifies the Holy Spirit's action in Baptism, such that in the manner that "by one Spirit [believers] were all baptized", so they are "made to drink of one Spirit". (1 Corinthians 12:13)

Thus the Spirit is also personally the living water welling up from Christ crucified (John 19:34; 1 John 5:8) as its source and welling up in Christians to eternal life.

Anointing - The symbolism of anointing with oil also signifies the Holy Spirit, to the point of becoming a synonym for the Holy Spirit.

The coming of the Spirit is referred to as his "anointing". (Cf. 1 John 2:20,27; 2 Corinthians 1:21)

In some denominations anointing is practiced in Confirmation; ("chrismation" in the Eastern Churches).

Its full force can be grasped only in relation to the primary anointing accomplished by the Holy Spirit, that of Jesus.

Christ (in Hebrew, messiah) means the one "anointed" by God's Spirit.

Fire - symbolizes the transforming energy of the Holy Spirit's actions. In the form of tongues "as of fire", the Holy Spirit rested on the disciples on the morning of Pentecost.

Cloud and light - The Spirit comes upon the Virgin Mary and "overshadows" her, so that she might conceive and give birth to Jesus.

On the mountain of transfiguration, the Spirit in the "cloud came and overshadowed" Jesus, Moses and Elijah, Peter, James and John, and "a voice came out of the cloud, saying, 'This is my Son, my Chosen; listen to him!'" (Luke 9:34-35)[11]

The dove. When Christ comes up from the water of his baptism, the Holy Spirit, in the form of a dove, comes down upon him and remains with him. (Matthew 3:16)

Wind The Spirit is likened to the "wind that blows where it will" (John 3:8), and described as "a sound from heaven like the rush of a mighty wind" (Acts 2:2-4).[10]

There's more..
