Something to Think About, by George Carlin
(God Bless him, his wife recently died...)

Isn't it amazing that George Carlin - Gross and foul mouthed comedian of the 70's and 8O's, could write something so very eloquent... A wonderful message by a smart man that not too many people really know.

The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less, we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness.

We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom. We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.
We've learned how to make a living, but not a life. We've added years to life not life to years. We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We conquered outer space but not inner space. We've done larger things, but not better things.

We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We've conquered the atom, but not our prejudice. We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but accomplish less. We've learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we communicate less and less.

These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men and small character, steep profits and shallow relationships. These are the days of two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses, but broken homes. These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill. It is a time when there is much In the showroom window and nothing in the stockroom. A time when technology can bring this letter to you, and a time when you can choose either to share this insight, or to just hit delete.

Remember, to spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever.
Remember, to say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that little person soon will grow up and leave your side.
Remember, to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because that is the only treasure you can give with your heart and it doesn't cost a cent.
Remember, to say, “I love you" to your partner and your loved ones, but most of all mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside of you.
Remember, to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not be there again, give time to love, give time to speak, and give time to share the precious thoughts In your mind.

I have read this a few times in my life... and agree whole heartedly.

My friend that was killed, Ken, he loved the works of eorge and would recite things to me all the time. Normally they would be smart assed, but on occassion really profound and heartbreaking.

Another interesting factoid? There is a show on the Treehouse channel that is called "Tomas and friends" (i think) an dit is about trains that have little kid issues and persivere through moral application. Anyways, George narrates the show. How cool is that?

I love George Carlin, always have and am old enough to remember his early work when every other word out of his mouth was a cuss word. He's hilarious and I find myself saying things from him too,"Let the daredevils get on the plane, I'm getting in." Love you P-Chunky!!

I've always liked George Carlin. This was a great thing. It reminded me I haven't hugged my oldest yet today. Almost 9, and she's always moving!

Brilliant, insightful and beautiful. George Carlin hit is so completely on the head. There are only two things in the world that can bring you ultimate happiness and peace and that is LOVE AND FAITH. If you have those two things... the rest is just junk.

I really like the wasy 100.4 sounds. Must be why you Americans use it... sounds bigger. HAH!! ;)

Funny thing these kids toons. I was watching the heffalump movie with Kira today and they have a silly little name game song thing in it. I thought it was just the cutest thing. Winnie the Pooh movies are so cute and innocent.

morning Chuck *stretch*....

here's a joke for you today.

A rancher goes to the bank to borrow money to buy a bull so he can increase his stock. The transaction is made and the banker who lent the money comes by a week later to see how his investment is doing. The farmer complains that the bull just eats grass and won't even look at the cows. The banker suggests that a veterinarian have a look at the bull.

The next week the banker returns to see if the vet helped. The farmer looks very pleased: "The bull has taken care of all my cows, broke through the fence, and has even serviced all my neighbor's cows!"

"Wow," says the banker, "what did the vet do to that bull?"

"Just gave him some pills," replied the rancher.

"What kind of pills?" asked the banker.

"I don't know, but they sort of taste like peppermint."
