Emily’s Campfire

Last weekend my daughter Emily went camping at the lake. She went with her mother, her sister, and a few friends from her old school. Due to the dry weather and the imminent threat of grassfires, there is a “Burn Ban” on here in Oklahoma. That means no outdoor fires except for gas or charcoal grills, and sometimes not even those are allowed. So instead of the traditional campfire on the ground they had to make due with one in the park's grill. Emily took my camera along with them and took a photo of it after the sun went down.

I love fires, and it really does take all the fun out of camping when you can't have them. Thankfully it rained for a few nights here and the ban has been lifted.Just in time for my camping week! hehe.

Which reminds me, i am going to be leaving on Saturday, i have a post for sunday, but i will be leaving my blog open again if you would like to post :)

have fun on your camping trip, it keeps raining all around us but not here, they'll keep the ban on even after it rains, they lifted it too early last time and we had a butt-load of grassfires, i'll stop by your site while you're away, maybe even the "Peacock" will visit. take care.

Hey Chuck,

Three cheers for camping in the winter! I used to love sitting around a fire with snow on the ground.

We hardly go camping anymore because Arizona is so crowded. The last time we went camping on a three-day weekend a two-hour drive home took us almost 9 hours. That just takes all the fun of of camping. In some camping areas you have to make reservations!

Oh yeah! And think of the things all those campfire flames could tell if they could make it through the cold nights like we did. Oh the wonders of a campfire. They're the best! To look into the flames and feel that heat is the best feeling in the world. Anything goes around a campfire. And where there's a will, there's a way. A girl who can turn a park grill into the campfire it was meant to be is doing AOK :)

babs - a butt-load of what?

jt - emily has set around many campfires with me, she's pretty good at starting them, although we tend to build a "White Man's" fire, we burn more wood in one night than an Indian would in a week.

Good for her (and you too). Nothing beats it! And lmao on burning more wood in one night than an Indian would in a week. I know that phenomenon! One night in particular I remember a "fire fight" (not literally), but an arguement over "fire size" and wood ownership and the right to burn. I had toted a bunch of split oak to the woods all by myself. It was a job getting that oak to the woods. One night I was cold as hell, and pissed, too. lol. I would not go in the tent and commenced to stay outside all night, chucking one piece of oak on after the other. Had me a nice fire going! BF stepped outside the tent and said "you getting ready to cook a fuckin elephant tonight?" You should have seen how big that fire got!

Hugs to ya!
